The North Neurosurgical
Service specializes in acute care and general neurosurgical services.
A graduate of the MGH Neurosurgery residency program is appointed
as Director of the North Neurosurgical Service with full admitting
and operating privileges and is supported by a secretary, office,
and fully staffed neurosurgical clinic.
For clinical
activities, the North Attending is assisted by a dedicated North
Junior Resident in Neurosurgery, a physician assistant, and residents
from the MGH Neurosurgical Residency.
The
North Attending performs a wide spectrum of cases including brain tumors, aneurysms,
trauma and a variety of spinal cases including advanced spinal instrumentation.
The North Neurosurgical Service plays an integral role in the MGH Neurosurgical
training program and is considered a highlight for MGH neurosurgery residents
because of the valuable insights gained by operating and working exclusively with
the North service director. The
service director (the North Attending) directs a program of neurosurgical care
that involves the most difficult and advanced aspects of neurosurgical care and
as such is afforded an outstanding experience in neurosurgery. Past directors
of the North Service have gone on to achieve prominence in many areas of clinical
neurosurgery. (See
MGH Neurosurgery Alumni). |
