Julie's Story:

My name is Julie and I have NF 1. I inherited it from my mother who was spontanious. I have 17 Cafe-au-lait and 800 to 1000 tumors mainly on torso and neck-face area. I am 50 years old. I had deminishing eyesight when I was 20. At an eye exam the doctor found he could not improve my one eye, so sent me for more x-rays. I had a blockage causing damage to my optic nerve. I was hydrocephalic. I had a shunt installed to drain off the spinal fluid. I have had some of the troublesome trumors removed, but sometimes they come back. I feel self consious about my bumps and wish more people knew about NF.
