I am 19 years old and was diagnosed with Alopecia 1 year ago. Although my dermatologist has tried many different things they've only resulted in temporary hair growth, eventually it falls out again. MY condition worsens each day. It effects me physically and emotionally. I don't know what to do. If anyone has any information or suffers from the same kind of condition; please e-mail me.

Thank You Dr. Ogilvy and Staff for saving our lives, the three sister named above. It is now exactly 5 years since our surgeries and we are each enjoying our children and grandchildren. We continue to offer to tell our story and expand on the fact that aneurysms DO seem to run in families, and without you suggesting that to us we may not be together, alive and happy today.

I am 42 years old, and have been diagnosed with hydrocephalus since age 10. Between the ages of 10 - 14, I had 20 shunts and revisions. If it were not for the skill of 3 neurosurgeons here in Albuquerque, Drs. Miller, Martinez, and Gold, I would not be alive today to write this message. Over the course of treatmeent, I have had numerous shunts, Tjorkelson's Proceedure, surgeries #1 and 20, multiple left and right VP shunts and 2 ventriculo/pleural shunts where I almost drowned on my own spinal fluid. Surgeries 21 - 24 were to remove junk tubing that cause problems or floated to the surface of the skin. I was asymptomatic from 1978 until May 1998 when my pump collapsed. Now I am back to a right VP shunt. That was surgery 25 and surgery 26 was to place a bypass shunt around a section of shunt 25 that had become infected. There was great concern that the infection was outsinde the shunt as opposed to inside as had it been inside, the neurosurgeons would have had to remove all of the junk tubing that is left inside of me. That would include VP shunts, both of the pleural shunts, a Tjorkelson shunt as well as a piece of shunt that has broken off and floated into the fourth ventricle. My block is non-communicating in the third ventricle. Please feel free to contact my via E-mail if I am able to answer any further questions. Thank you for providing this web-site.

i have a long story and i'm at my wits end. as a water maintenance worker and pipe layer, my doctor summised that the thrombophlebitis in my left leg was due to the trauma caused by the daily use of the jack-hammer over a period of eight years on a daily basis. I had angio-everything which led to a shunt replacing my main artery in my left leg. now six years later, workers comp. wants to settle my claim even tho the attaining physican insists that in four more years or less the shunt will have to be replaced. at age 48 i've been forced into medical retirement which pays about 300 a month, workers comp. benefits have run out, i can't find suitable employment anywhere and can barely walk without expierencing leg fatigue and pain. my left foot is turning red to black and open sores are now found between my toes with dead skin falling off. medical benefits for my wife and me have run out and at our age that's just stupid to live without it. just try to get medical coverage with this pre existing condition at my monthly retirement salary. and besides i'm not that great at housekeeping and rattleing them pots and pans. our marriage of 14 years has suffered and continues to do so.I'm still a struggling u.s.marine vietnam vet.where do i go now. what do i do. Lord have mercy on me and God bless my country and the American way. please help me help myself and my family and my loved ones. eddie morningstarR wakan tankan kici un!

Hello Deidre and Dr. O, thank you for saving my life 5 years ago this week. I have started an online support Group and encourage other survivors and family members to contact me about joining. We talk serious but we also laugh a lot, especially at ourselves. Each of us have a unique and interesting story which we freely share with other members. To join or have questions about the group contact me, Dianady@aol_DOT_com and I will attempt to assist you. All are welcome including patients and families.

thank you giving me the chance to learn about epilepsy. I'm 55 and have had grand mal seizures for 45 yrs. The knowledge that my parents had was limited to what the drs told them. My dad was in denial about my condition. Ther was nothing wrong with his little girl. I can get a job(on the bottom of the ladder) but when I have a seizure or my employer finds out that I have this hidden condition, I'm fired. THE ADA hasn't really helped me, but there is hope for the future generations who have to deal with this quiet illness. I'm interested in talking to a well knowen person who deals with epilepsy every day. To have seizures and to be the viewer is too different sceens. I am taking dilantin & phenbartial, those are the only drugs I have ever taken. Please hear me and help. Thank you for your time. Janet Billows

Would someone please send to me the address of Dr.Marnay in Montpellier or how I best contact he or his team? Has anyone had experience with cervical disc joint replacement rather than MED? I am looking for the most experienced surgeon as I have had the most dismal and painful result post MED. I have more pain weakness and numbness and have lost my livelyhood.

It is unfortunate that the neurology department is so overloaded that patients have to wait 3 or 4 months to see a neurologist regardless of need.

I just suffered from a brain aneurysm in January, 2002. The first headache I had was during lumbar epidural steriod in December, 1997. I had an epiduural blood clot patch a week later. Could that have caused the aneurysm?

I have been diagnosed with 2 Tarlov's cysts in thoracic area after CT scan and MRI due to pain under right rib that I thought might be my gall bladder but was not. I am interested in anyone who has had recent treatment successes.

My mother, age 82 WALKED into her local hospital in 1999 to receive an epidural shot to relieve the pain in her left leg. As a result she became paralysed on her right side. Spent 4 months in nursing home rehab. Now is dependent on a walker and wheelchair and others to take care of her. I am wondering if anyone has ever heard of this happening to anyone else.

I would like to hear from anyone with info on brain cancer. My father was diagnosed about 5 months ago. His condition is so weak and he is paralysed. He could not talk and even to open his eyes. He underwent 5 times of radiology. The doctor say his tumour in his head is bigger than a golf ball and there are 2 smaller ones. I would really like to here from anyone who went through this or something similar.

I lost my left eye due to childhood glaucuma and I now have a prosthesis. Recently, I started seeing some weird shapes and shadows covering my vision. These shapes and shadows seem to move in coordination with my eyes and make me very nervous anxious and don't let me get enough sleep at night. These shapes seem to cover my vision, and make things look blurry at times. These shapes also seem like they are covering my body and make my bones and joints crack. I have irregular and frequent bowel movements and also my head, hands and feet go numb at times. Please let me know if anyone has had experience with such symptoms and how you have dealt with it.

Thanks for the helpful information. I was diagnosed with two meningiomas 12-17-01. I am trying to learn as much as I can about the needed sugery, possible complications, recovery time and anything else that would be of help. I have some time to research this "problem" so please help me to understand as much as possible. By the way , these tumors were found while looking for the cause of some other health problems. So, I am "Unluckily Lucky." I know that God will see me through this as He has always. I have an excellent support system in place, but would love to have more. Thanks in advance for any and all help.
